It has been a while since my last blog. Not sure why exactly, as food and drink are constantly on my brain. For a time, I think it was because I wasn’t going to many high end restaurants. Much of the food I was cooking at home was either highly experimental or somewhat normal fair. However, the reason I started the blog was to share experiences among foodies and just have fun. After all, food brings people together. So after some thought, I am back on the keyboard. As usual, I have spent some of the year traveling. My wife and I hit the road and traveled across the great expanse that is Texas. In Amarillo, we stopped at the famous Big Texan Steakhouse, a true slice of roadside Americana. We crossed over into the Chihuahuan desert and into New Mexico. In New Mexico, we tried different flavors of the southwest. Red and Green Chiles ruled the day. Posole gave us the energy to hike through the cliff dwellings of Bandelier National Monument. In Colorado, we made the ascent up Pike’s Peak on the Cog Railway and then ate one of the famous Pike’s Peak donuts. In Manitou Springs, we were bold enough to try Rocky Mountain Oysters. Colorado is blessed with many microbreweries and local beers, which always brought a fun end to the evening. One of the best meals, was one of the simplest, A random stop for breakfast at a diner in Woodland Park, Colorado with a fantastic view of Mt. Tava. Wonderful pancakes with great bacon and eggs with an incredible view and great company. It’s these little moments of joy that make road trips worthwhile and are foodie Zen if you will. So as I search for enlightenment of the perfect flavors, I will continue to write about it and share my experiences. I hope you share yours too. Together we can find your inner foodie.
